What Is Rapid Prototyping?

Prototype is an early sample, model, or release of a product built to test a concept or process. Rapid prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) data. Construction of the part or assembly is usually done using CNC machining, 3D printing, vacuum casting, SLA/SLS additive layer manufacturing technology.

CNC Machining Service

CNC machining is a subtractive manufacturing process where raw material is removed by cutting tools to make a part or product. CNC machining is suitable for the processing of engineering plastics or metals. The finished product appearance and feel are the same with mass production. CNC machining can complete products with very high tolerance requirements, with all the features required for the function such as threads, threaded holes and precise planar combinations.

3D Printing

3D printing process builds a three-dimensional object from a CAD model, usually by successively adding material layer by layer, which is why it is also called additive manufacturing. This unique approach to production allows designers to choose complex internal structures such as cold runners or lattice structures. 3D printing is ideal for cost and time saving in one-off complex part or small batch products.

  • Vacuum Casting
  • Vacuum casting is a casting process for elastomer using a vacuum to draw the liquid material into the mold. The process starts with a master model usually made by CNC machining or 3D printing, then the master model is immersed in liquid silicone, which is cured and becomes the mold. Get out the master model and keep the silicone mold, draw the liquid resin material into the mold and copy a new master model.
  • SLA/SLS
  • SLA & SLS are the first 3D printing manufacturing method. These two methods are an excellent choice for rapid prototyping of single products. Rapid prototyping products printed by SLA & SLS can be used as prototypes for vacuum casting. Like other 3D additive manufacturing, SLA & SLS rapid prototyping can create complex internal structures that traditional machining methods cannot.
  • Rapid Prototyping Tooling
  • Deluxe Industry has the equipment, skill and experience to precision rapid tooling for plastic injection molding and pressure die casting. The rapid mold tools are made with high-quality P20, Nak80 or H13 tool steels. Using our multi-axis CNC mills, grinders and EDM machines, we are confident to do mold making with kinds of surface finish like highest optical polish or textures surface.
    Our rapid tooling service can create precision mold both for plastic injection molding and pressure die casting.
